Dream Bride

Title: Dream Bride
Word Count: 267
Story Notes: I'm a little too nervous for real story notes.

She faced herself in the mirror; the intricate dress, that had looked so stiff before, moved effortlessly with her body. She almost wished that it didn’t. She almost wished that it would press tightly against her, restricting her every move. It was hard to feel trapped when her body felt more free than it had in years. Every bit of the sickness that had ravaged her was gone, but with it had gone her free will. She could feel his gaze, she knew he was coming. If only she could get out, if she could just wake up. But, she knew if she opened her eyes -her real eyes- the sickness would be back.

She was kept alive here, in a world of dreams that felt more real than anything in her waking life. Here, she was strong and so very alive. She could breathe easy and think clearly. She could run through fields of flowers and dance in the rain. She would never grow old, never get sick again. She would live forever. But she would have to marry the nightmarish man. She would become the bride of a demon. And, she realized, that was far more terrifying than death. A large hand fell onto her shoulder, she could see his form in the mirror; so beautiful, yet so horrible. She closed her eyes tightly, anything to block his reflection from her vision. This was it, a decision had to be made - did she want to live fear or be free to die?

She took a deep breath and opened her eyes. Her real eyes.
